About the Author

Raised in East Vancouver, in 1996, we moved a few blocks over to the west side of Burnaby not far from where I was born. Though I still don’t live that far away – presently in East Burnaby, I’ve always been interested in what makes things tick. In my first post-secondary courses, I became interested in concepts around urban planning. I was interested in the changing patterns of multicultural diversity, the redevelopment of once-familiar neighborhoods, the expansion of public transit, and myriad of urban social issues. From a relatively young age, I also became very interested in how government planning and policy affected these urban issues.

After completing an undergraduate degree with a major in Geography and a minor in Sociology, I returned to Simon Fraser University to pursue a Masters Degree in Urban Studies. Under the Directorship of Professor Anthony Perl, a specialist in political analysis and transportation trends with a keen interest in future energy scarcity, and the guidance of Professor Meg Holden, a specialist in urban sustainable development policy, I found a home for my interests in transportation and urban planning. In 2011, I completed my Masters Thesis, a project that explores the political and planning history of the City of Burnaby’s Town Centres policy within a regional context.

I’ve also found time to foster my community interest in other ways. I presently volunteer as a Board Member for Burnaby Community Services and  Burnaby Meals on Wheels. I also help out with the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness when I can.
